Hey!

Knights of Hambley Collaboration

Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee Stout

Remember that time we posted a few hype videos of doing a collaboration beer with Broken Throne and Dueling Barrels then everyone’s world got flipped upside down?  I know, we barely remember that world too. But….the good news is that the collaboration still happened and the beer is available for purchase now! We originally planned to launch this beer around St. Patrick’s Day and have launch parties at both breweries. Obviously, we weren’t able to do that, but Broken Throne was able to pivot and bottle the product so we all could still enjoy it. Let me just tell you something, IT IS THE BOMB.

This collaboration is a Bourbon Barrel Aged Coffee Stout coming in at 11.6% ABV and has notes of caramel, vanilla, coffee, bourbon and chocolate. We played a small part by providing freshly roasted Colombian coffee that added subtle coffee notes ot the brew that complimented the roasted malts and bourbon characteristics of the beer. If I were to pair this beer with food, I would do something sweet like a coffee cake or a rich and spicy beef stew. My mouth is watering right now by typing this, and I have a roast thawing in the fridge so you know what my game plan is going to be this weekend. I’m told that Broken Throne only has roughly 30 bottles left, so you better get there this weekend and get it before it’s all gone. I would suggest buying two. One to drink right away, obviously, and one to age to see how the flavor changes one year from now.

Big thanks to our friends at Broken Throne and Dueling Barrels for making this delicious beer for us all to enjoy. It’s pretty unique that Pikeville has two breweries and a coffee roastery all within walking distance of each other right off of Hambley Blvd, which gets a subtle nod in the name of the beer, Knights of Hambley. We hope to do a collab every year, because nothing is more perfect than working with friends to develop a product we can all enjoy together.

Leave us a comment and let us know what you think!

2020 Small Business of the Year

If you read our last blog post, thanks for coming back!

One of our biggest accomplishments last year was receiving the 2020 Small Business of the Year Award from the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. We were extremely excited to receive the phone call that we had been nominated and honored to receive this award! Everyone at Lincoln Road is proud to support the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and be in a network with so many other great businesses and entrepreneurs. The staff at the chamber have been big supporters of ours since day one and we are very thankful that we have them in our community. If you are a business owner reading this and not connected in the business community, contact your local Chamber of Commerce!

Our team has worked extremely hard this year to elevate coffee culture in our region and provide access to ethically sourced freshly roasted coffee. Coffee has been a big part of my life ever since I was a child sitting on my Mamaws porch sipping coffee and telling stories, with a lot of cream and sugar then I might add haha I didn’t know what I was doing back then. As I’ve gotten older, I have been intrigued by the process of coffee and the culture around it. The way its grown, harvested, and traded to the way its roasted and brewed. Coffee tells a story. There are so many steps before the coffee gets in to your cup. Before we receive the green beans to roast, it changes hands several times. This industry produces one of the most popular drinks in the entire world and most consumers don’t understand the complexity it possesses. We hope that we can be at the forefront in central Appalachia on educating consumers on where their coffee comes from and why it matters to buy from your local roaster that has good ethically sourced coffee.

This award is just the beginning for Lincoln Road! We’re excited about expanding in 2021 and getting into our new location. Appreciate your support and don’t forget to drink good coffee and do good things

This year has certainly been strange, but we are hopeful that 2021 will be looking much brighter for Lincoln Road! I wanted to take a second and reflect on 2020 and share the good things that have happened with your support.

Expansion

With a shift in focus to distribution and e-commerce, we now support six coffee shops in central Appalachia, provide high-quality freshly roasted coffee and now EXPANDING! Without the support of these shops and your support online we wouldn’t be where we are today. Every cup of coffee that you drink at your local coffee shop and every pound of coffee we ship matters and we appreciate it more than you know. Our expansion project is almost complete and we CANNOT WAIT. At this location, we will produce quality products, host special events around music, art and coffee. We will expand our cold brew coffee offerings and hope to have curbside pickup and delivery available in the future! Stay tuned for more updates and progress pictures.

New Product Offerings

We are excited to expand our offerings. Payton and I sat on my back porch and roasted nearly 30 different varieties of coffee and chose the Ethiopia and Kenya coffee. The Ethiopia coffee was unlike anything we had tried before. Notes of blueberries, raspberries, lemon and chocolate. What’s not to love?! You can expect more coffee varieties in 2021, because we are always trying new things!

This year, a lot of our customers bought coffee as an act of kindness for others which may have been the best gift of 2020. As a result, we listened and added “thank you” and “miss you” postcards. This is a great way to show someone that you’re thinking of them. At checkout, you can leave a handwritten message and our team personally writes all of them! This project has brought our mission to a new level!

#TogetherKY Coffee

We launched #TogetherKY coffee that supports families that have been affected by COVID-19. Our mission is to do good things and this coffee was a small way of us supporting those in our communities. We will be continuing this effort into 2021.

Lincoln Road Coffee Lounge - Norton, VA

Launching a new business in the middle of a pandemic was a bit scary, but y’all showed up and we felt your support. It has been great to finally welcome you to the coffee lounge in downtown Norton. With your help, we shattered our goals and are grateful for all of the positive reviews, tags on Instagram and the helpful feedback. Our desire is to see the lounge shaped by the community. This lounge is truly just the beginning.

Lincoln Road was founded in Southwest Virginia as a cold brew coffee company. It’s amazing how far we’ve come since the days of selling cold brew out of mason jars and out of the coffee trailer at events. Our vision has always been to launch a physical location in Southwest Virginia and never lose sight of our roots. This community has supported us from day one so we are thrilled to give back. We have an amazing team at this location, and everyone cares about doing good for the community we serve. I can’t say enough good things about our managing partner, Blake Slayer, who has been supporting Lincoln Road since the early days. We were glad to bring him on as a partner this year and couldn’t have grown without him!!

Faith Life Market

Faith Life Market opened their doors in downtown Pikeville on division street this year. This is a ministry that we care a lot about and so glad that we can continue to support it. Jared Arnett and his team are doing so many good things for our community through this ministry that you may not even know about.

We sold and moved all of our equipment from our coffee shop in Pikeville to their location and helped them get going! It's so good to see our community come out and support this awesome ministry. Each cup of coffee or bag of #FaithLife coffee goes to support a need in our community. Faith Life Market has thrift items, handmade crafts, books, gifts, WIFI and Lincoln Road coffee! They’re working to inspire and equip people to live out their faith in Jesus Christ with purpose. You can plan on us continuing to support this mission in 2021!

FUN

We have had a blast this year roasting coffee and fulfilling orders from all over the country. Typically, when we roast, we’re listening to some really good tunes, sometimes dancing (only when I’m alone haha) and always enjoying every second of growing this dream. Good tunes are essential to a good roast. We can’t wait to share more fun in our new space in 2021!

Our team is very grateful for the opportunities that were presented to us this year and hope that we can continue to serve our communities and make an impact. Here's to drinking good coffee and doing good things! Cheers everyone!

Happy New Year!

We're Still Here

Lincoln Road Apron.jpg

We’re Still Here | We live in wild times. Never thought that we would be in this situation but here we are trying to figure it out. The pandemic has certainly created some unique challenges but also unique opportunities. As you know, back in March when COVID-19 started hitting the US, we closed the coffee shop side of our business in Pikeville in hopes of opening back up at a later date. Although the coffee shop has been closed we have continued to service our wholesale customers and ship coffee from our online store front. This has allowed us to stay in business as we work through a transition and expansion. Yes, it still includes a coffee shop, but hang with me.

We are still here, refocused for a new way forward and to build a sustainable future for our business. However, we are making a transition to partner with Faith Life Ministries on a new coffee shop in a new location on division street in Pikeville where they have created Faith Life Market. The market will consist of a coffee shop, consignment store, kids corner and book store. All under one roof!!

When we opened the coffee roastery, we wanted our brand to be mission focused and identify organizations that were doing good for communities here and abroad. Our values are summed up by a quote I heard at my brother-in-laws church in Durham “because we exist on this planet, others should be suffering less and experiencing more.” That stuck with me and I want our company to think that way always. Jared Arnett, Founder of Faith Life Ministries, and I had several conversations before we opened in the Blue Raven space to somehow create a Faith Life coffee shop but the timing just wasn’t right yet. Although we’re still in the middle of COVID-19 the timing is right for us to make this transition. We are glad to support their efforts and provide them high quality coffee, training and coffee consulting for their coffee shop in Faith Life Market.

Meanwhile, Lincoln Road in Pikeville is in the process of moving in to a bigger building that is more suitable for distribution and expansion. Our vision is to produce high quality products in this space and host specialized events around music, art and coffee culture. All things that we love. In the beginning, we will not have in store retail, but hope to at some point, and offer limited hours with special release coffees.

Making this transition will allow us to put our focus on creating a quality product that is widely distributed from right here in Pikeville! We will be upping our game on the e-commerce side and expanding our wholesale customer base.

We also launched a new coffee lounge in downtown Norton VA! This area is where Lincoln Road began. Opening a shop in Southwest Virginia was always part of our vision just made a few pivots along the way. Check it out here!

We appreciate everyone’s support during these wild times. We’re still here, and we promise to continue to do good things and roast good coffee. We hope that you will continue to support us and do good things for your community!
